The Ferris State University Athletics Department has announced a new agreement with Mentor Partners, Inc. to broadcast specific Ferris State Athletics events for the 2005-06 season.

Mentor Partners, Inc., which owns and operates WYBR 102-FM along with WWBR-FM and WBRN-AM in Big Rapids, has received radio broadcast rights to Bulldog football, men’s ice hockey, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball contests.

“We are extremely happy to have Mentor Partners, Inc., continue its association with Ferris State Athletics in the broadcasting of Bulldog athletics events,” said Ferris Associate Athletics Director For Advancement Brian Kegler. “We believe this partnership will enhance our growing fan base throughout Big Rapids and the surrounding areas. We’ve look forward in the future of continuing our fine working relationship with Mentor Partners, Inc. and increasing the visibility of Ferris Athletics.”

Jeff Scarpelli, the president of Mentor Partners, Inc., agreed.

“We’re proud to continue our coverage of Ferris State Athletics,” Scarpelli said. “We’ve made a comittment to increase our services with both football and hockey scheduled to be broadcast on our FM stations. Our listeners and Bulldog fans alike will be pleased to know we’ve significantly upgraded our studios with newer equipment and also have enhanced our signals, particularly with WBRN-AM.

“We’re looking for an exciting season of Ferris State Athletics and wish the best of luck to all the athletic teams,” added Scarpelli.

Under the agreement, WYBR-FM (Y102) will air at least 10 of Ferris’ 11-scheduled regular-season games this fall with Jason DaDay handling the play-by-play duties. WWBR-FM, formerly WBRN-FM, is slated to air 28 men’s ice hockey contests this upcoming season which comprises the entire Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) schedule. The on-air play-by-play voice for Bulldog hockey has yet to be determined.

WBRN-AM will serve as the home for Bulldog men’s and women’s basketball as the station is scheduled to air 18 GLIAC contests. The conference home contests will continue to be broadcasted by Y102 and WBRN Sports Director Bill Beckwith while Ferris Assistant Athletics Communications Director Rob Bentley will once again be back in front of the microphone for the away games.
