BRIAN KEGLER APPOINTED TO ADMINISTRATIVE POST Notre Dame Sports Marketing And Promotions Assistant Selected As Ferris State’s Assistant Athletics Director
The Ferris State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has hired Brian Kegler (pronounced KEG-ler) as Assistant Athletics Director in an announcement made by FSU Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic.
The 27-year old Kegler, who has served as a sports marketing and promotions assistant at the University of Notre Dame since October 2000, will be responsible for a wide-variety of functions. Such duties will include directing the sale of all department advertising and corporate sponsorships, soliciting external funds, establishing goals and fundraising plans for all athletic booster clubs, coordinating publication of athletic fundraising documents and newsletters, assisting with capital campaigns for athletic facilities, and organizing and directing ticket sale drives for hockey, football, and basketball.
“I’m extremely excited to have Brian join our staff,” Kirinovic said. “His addition provides us with someone on a full-time basis to help generate revenue, which will be his primary focus.
“Brian’s role will be critical to the success we are able to achieve in gathering funds to supplement our resources and in turn servicing and thanking our customers,” Kirinovic added.
At Notre Dame, Kegler’s primary responsibilities included handling marketing and promotional activities for the Fighting Irish football, men’s basketball, baseball, ice hockey, men’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s soccer programs. He helped conduct group ticket sale efforts, organize on-field presentations, attain sponsorships, coordinate mass mailings and schedule public head coaching appearances. Kegler also produced and designed various promotional items, advertisements and brochures during his stint at the nationally-recognized NCAA Division I institution.
Prior to his appointment at Notre Dame, Kegler served as head baseball coach for the Rome (N.Y.) Indians of the Northeastern Collegiate Baseball League from 1999-2000, where he oversaw all managerial and recruitment decisions and assisted with team marketing and promotional strategies while leading the team to its first championship game appearance in nearly 30 years. Kegler also served for two years during the same period (1999-2000) as a baseball administrative assistant at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. While with the Cyclones, he was responsible for helping formulate the team budget, assisting with travel itineraries, developing outfield signage plans and conducting in-office recruiting.
Kegler received his administrative start while completing a sports marketing and promotions internship during the summer of 1998 at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. As an intern, Kegler implemented a student-athlete mentoring program, coordinated radio and newspaper tradeout publicity and organized a “Tailgate on the Turf” event, which provided the general student population and Panther student-athletes an opportunity to interact.
As a collegian, Kegler played baseball at the University of Georgia (1993-95) before transferring to Northern Iowa. An honorable mention 1997 All-Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) infielder, Kegler led Northern Iowa to a 32-23 overall record and a runner-up MVC finish during his junior campaign. In three seasons (1996-99) with the Panthers, Kegler compiled 115 career hits in 390 at-bats for a .295 career batting average and drove in 71 runs. He registered a .318 batting average and had 50 hits in 47 games as a senior in 1998 under head coach Dave Schrage.
A native of Independence, Iowa, Kegler was a two-time first-team all-conference and all-state baseball player at Independence High School. He earned three varsity letters in baseball, two in basketball and two in football. Kegler, a Mizuno Pre-Season High School Baseball All-America selection, also attained super all-state baseball team honors and was voted Most Valuable Player of the area’s senior all-star team in 1993.
The son of Dr. Dan and Vicki Kegler, Brian graduated in 1998 from Northern Iowa with a bachelor of arts degree in organizational communication and went on to earn a master’s degree in sports management from Iowa State in 2000.
