HOCKEY HAT TRICK EXTRAVAGANZA SET FOR OCTOBER 9

Detroit Red Wings Alumni Team To Play at Ferris State’s Ewigleben Ice Arena

An appearance by the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Team is among several highlights of the Hockey Hat Trick Extravaganza, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Ewigleben (pronounced A-VAH-glave-in) Ice Arena on the Ferris State University campus in Big Rapids, Mich.

The “Hat Trick” extravaganza will commence at 1:30 p.m. (EDT) with the Red Wings’ Alumni Team facing off against the Big Rapids All Stars. Proceeds from the game will benefit local hockey programs and charities supported by the Red Wing Alumni Organization. The Detroit alumni roster features such former Red Wing greats as Dino Ciccarelli, Ted Lindsay and Alex Delvecchio among others while the Big Rapids All-Star squad will be comprised of local talent along with several FSU varsity and club team hockey alumni. Youth associated with the Big Rapids Area Junior Hockey Association (BRAJHA) are presently selling tickets to the game and the individual with the most tickets sold will have the priviledge of sitting on the Red Wings alumni bench.

Following the contest, the Red Wings alumni will be signing autographs starting at 4 p.m. (EDT) during a cookout and picnic which is being co-sponsored by the FSU Athletics and Alumni Relations Departments. The event will be held in the parking lot at the FSU’s Ewigleben Ice Arena. The cookout and picnic, which will feature live entertainment by the Big Rapids band Inside Out, is all-you-can eat for $5.

The third and final event of the day will be the Ferris State men’s ice hockey team’s 2004-05 season-opening series finale against the Colgate Red Raiders. A 7:05 p.m. (EDT) start time is scheduled for the non-league contest at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. Kid’s Night will be held in conjunction with the hockey game in which activity books sponsored by the FSU Copy Center will be distributed to those children in attendance.
