FERRIS STATE ATHLETICS HOSTED EASTWOOD ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ON RECENT VISIT
The Ferris State University Athletics Department, FSU Ice Arena and the Bulldog Hockey program teamed up Tuesday (Jan. 31) to host approximately 60 youth from the Eastwood Early Childhood Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
The students were part of Donna Drake's Focus on 4's program and Jennifer Bentley's PPI (preprimary impaired) classroom. This year's visit marks the third consecutive year the two classrooms have visited FSU.
The field trip, which consisted of both a morning and afternoon session, included a visit from the Ferris State "Bulldog" mascot, a tour of the ice arena and athletics complex along with a look at the Bulldog hockey facilities and zamboni.
Ferris State Hockey Adminstrative Assistant/Video Coordinator Dave Cencer also spoke to both groups and displayed various hockey equipment in the program's varsity locker room during their field trip. The day's activities were organized and directed by Mike Haggerty, who serves as FSU's Events, Facilities and Marketing Manager.
The students taking part in the tour also received complimentary hockey pucks from FSU Athletics Equipment Manager Ben Mumah in addition to posters and schedule cards from the FSU Athletics Department.
The Eastwood Early Childhood Center, which is part of the Big Rapids Public Schools system, is home to all kindergarten classrooms in the district, a primary classroom, a special education preschool classroom, Focus on Fours and the Early Success program.
The students along with their teachers took time to pause for several photos during their visit to Ferris State University.
