FSU ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT TO SPONSOR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University Athletics Department will be sponsoring two community service projects to benefit Project Starburst within the next month at a pair of FSU home men’s ice hockey contests.
Project Starburst is a privately-funded rural poverty program in Mecosta County whose purpose is to assist needy children and families in the community who are less fortunate than others.
A canned food drive will be conducted at this Friday’s (Nov. 22) contest between the Bulldogs and the Ohio State University Buckeyes at the Ewigleben (pronounced A-VAH-glave-in) Ice Arena on the Ferris State campus. Opening faceoff for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) contest is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. (EST). Those fans attending are asked to bring a canned or non-perishable food item to the game which will directly benefit those less fortunate during the upcoming Holiday Season.
The second event scheduled is the Teddy Bear Toss, which will take place Friday, Dec. 6, during the Bulldogs’ contest versus the Michigan State University Spartans. A 7:35 p.m. (EST) start time is slated for the CCHA encounter. The bears will be tossed onto the ice during one of the period breaks before being collected and donated to Project Starburst. For each teddy bear donated by an individual that person will receive a voucher for a free terrace-level ticket to the Friday, Feb. 28, game between Ferris State and the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks.
“The Ferris State Athletics Department is honored to assist and support this worthwhile project through the generous giving of our loyal Bulldog fans,” said FSU Assistant Athletics Director Brian Kegler. “We sincerely appreciate the great support which has been shown in the past and are hoping those efforts will continue in the future.”
