FERRIS ATHLETICS TO CONDUCT FUNDRAISER FOR INJURED STUDENT-ATHLETE

athleticslogo The Ferris State University Athletics Department, in conjunction with the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), will be conducting a fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 11, to provide financial support for the family of injured student-athlete Jim Bourdlais (Newberry).

Bourdlais, a member of the FSU football program along with his brother Bill Bourdlais, recently (Jan. 15) was partially paralyzed in an automobile accident and is presently undergoing physical therapy at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. As part of the fundraiser, the athletics department and SAAC organization will be raising money to assist the Bourdlais family.

SAAC members will be collecting donations in the lobby of the facility during FSU's Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) contest next Saturday (Feb. 11) versus Notre Dame, which is set for a 7:05 p.m. (EST) face off in Ferris' Ewigleben Ice Arena at Big Rapids, Mich. In addition, the athletics department will also charge $2 for parking near the facility throughout the day with the proceeds being added to the collection.

"Jimmy and his brother Bill have been great ambassadors for the institution and this is an opportunity for us as a department to help a couple of our own family members," said FSU Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic. "We will appreciate any support that can assist the Bourdlais family in their time of need."

The funds collected in the SAAC-driven event will assist the family with medical bills, lodging during their stay in Grand Rapids and other necessities arising due to the accident.

"This fundraiser will be similar to the efforts we provided a few years back in helping our former mascot Jeph Carhoun recover from a similar circumstance," Kirinovic said. "We're trying to do the same thing here by providing whatever assistance we can during this difficult time."

Those individuals not able to take part in the fundraising event can also send donations to the FSU Athletics Department, which will be added to the money raised. Checks should be made payable to the "Bourdlais Fund" and sent to: FSU Athletics Department, Ferris State University, 210 Sports Drive, Big Rapids, MI 49307.
