The Ferris State University Athletics Department regrets to report the loss of student-athlete Ben Willard, who died Thursday, May 27, as a result of injuries substained in an automobile accident near his hometown of Jackson, Mich.

A member of the Bulldog football program, Willard redshirted as a freshman during his initial season at Ferris State last fall. The 6-3, 251-pound offensive guard had attained Detroit News prep all-state recognition prior to joining the FSU program. Willard, 18, graduated from Jackson High School in 2003.

"Our (the Ferris State Athletics Department) condolances go out to the Willard family at this extremely difficult time," said FSU Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic. "Ben was a member of the Bulldog football family and as a result we are all grieving his loss."

Willard's funeral has been set for this Sunday, May 30, beginning at 2 p.m. (EDT). A viewing will be held from 1-2 p.m. (EDT) prior to the funeral, which will take place at the Heart of the Lakes United Brethren Church in Brooklyn, Mich.

Visitation will be held at the Desnoyer Funeral Home in Jackson this Saturday, May 29, from 2-4 p.m. (EDT) and 6-8 p.m. (EDT).
