Senior guard Dennis Springs (Toledo, Ohio/Scott) and junior forward Terrance Shaw (Saginaw/Bridgeport) were honored as top 10 men's selections while junior guards Kristin Reinhart (East Lansing) and Erin Miller (Niles) both made the women's top 10 list.
Springs was picked second overall behind Grand Valley State sophomore center Callistus Eziukwu while Shaw was the seventh men's player featured. GVSU had three selections, Ferris and Hope College both had two honorees while Aquinas, Calvin and Cornerstone each had one player on the men's top 10 list.
The women's rankings also honored Reinhart as the second overall selection while Miller came in seventh. Grand Valley State tallied four of the top 10 picks, including the number one honoree in 2004-05 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year Niki Reams. Ferris placed second with two nominations followed by Calvin, Aquinas, Hope and Davenport with one apiece.
The Ferris men's basketball team, which dropped its 2005-06 season opener Tuesday (Nov. 15) evening 103-85 at Saint Joseph's (Ind.), returns three starters and six letterwinners from last season's 24-7 overall team that advanced to the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional final. The two-time defending GLIAC North Division champions will visit Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Saturday, Nov. 19, for a 4 p.m. (EST) non-league tilt in Edwardsville, Ill.
The Bulldog women’s basketball team will officially open the 2005-06 campaign by taking part in the Aquinas College Classic Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19, in Grand Rapids, Mich. FSU squares off against Indiana-South Bend in Friday’s (Nov. 18) 6 p.m. (EST) tournament opener while host Aquinas will battle Goshen (Ind.) in the 8 p.m. (EST) nightcap. The tourney’s consolation and championship games are set for Saturday (Nov. 19) at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. (EST), respectively.
