FERRIS STATE FOOTBALL CAPTAINS VISIT CANCER SURVIVORS

Three team captains on the 2005 Ferris State University football team along with Bulldog football head coach Jeff Pierce recently took time out of their busy schedules to meet with cancer survivors at the Mecosta County Medical Center (MCMC) as part of October being nationally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Seniors Ryan Kaul (Clarkston) and Jeff Williams (West Branch/Ogemaw Heights), and junior Mike Klobucher (Grand Haven/North Muskegon) visited MCMC as part of a team project to offer cancer patients support and inspiration along with focusing on survival of the disease.

The three Ferris State student-athletes gave the patients a bouquet of flowers and also cards which stated "thinking of you....from FSU Football."

All three individuals have had a family experience with breast cancer with their mother and/or grandmother being inflicted with the dreadful disease.

The FSU Athletics Department is also taking an active role by holding a Breast Cancer Awareness Day in conjunction with the Bulldog football team's home-finale contest against Northwood University this Saturday (Oct. 29) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. A 1 p.m (EDT) start time for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game is scheduled.

Breast cancer survivors of West Michigan have been invited to attend the event as guests of the athletics department for the afternoon. They will be participating in a pre-game tailgate starting at 10 a.m. (EDT), which is being provided courtesy of the Mecosta County Medical Center and the Ferris State University Catering Department.

As a part of the event, pink ribbons and fact sheets on breast cancer will be handed out at the gates. Also, both the Ferris State and Northwood football teams will be wearing emblems on their helmets representing the pink ribbon, which is the universally recognized symbol of breast cancer awareness.

All members of the community are encouraged to attend this event. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children and may be purchased at the gate.
