FERRIS SPORTS UPDATE RETURNS FOR A SECOND YEAR

Television Show Featuring Ferris State Athletics To Expand Coverage

Athletics Logo The weekly Ferris State University television program, Ferris Sports Update will be returning to the airwaves for a second straight season in a recent announcement made by FSU's University Advancement & Marketing department.

Ferris Sports Update is a half-hour, weekly coaches interview show which profiles Ferris State Athletics. The show is produced by Ferris State University Television Digital Media Production (TDMP) students in partnership with the Bulldog Athletics Department.

The show will be carried into 1.6 million households on the network of Comcast Local stations in Michigan, parts of Ohio and Indiana (check local listings for channel number) as well as on Charter Cable Channel 22 in the Big Rapids area.

Ferris Sports Update will be airing on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. (ET) with the first show scheduled to be shown on Thursday, Sept. 6.

Returning as the host of Ferris Sports Update is local radio personality Scott Roman of Sunny 97.3 radio. The 30-minute program is taped and produced in a studio within the Interdisciplinary Resource Center (IRC) Building on the FSU campus. The show will also be aired through on-campus cable along with the Comcast Local Network and Charter Cable.

Ferris Sports Update affords a unique opportunity for Bulldog fans to get up-to-date information pertaining to Ferris State athletics while also providing insight from the respective FSU varsity athletic programs from its coaches, student-athletes and support staff. The show will include features on Ferris State student-athletes along with highlights from FSU Athletics events.

The students in the class producing the show are under the direction of faculty member Glen Okonoski with assistance from department chair Fred Wyman and Steve Cox of FSU Media Production.

"This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase Ferris State University and its quality athletics program," said FSU Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic. "The show proved to be a success last season and we believe the coverage of Bulldog athletics will only continue to improve and expand.

"Certainly the production of Ferris Sports Update wouldn't be possible without the tremendous support of (associate vice president) Shelly Armstrong in University Advancement and Marketing and those associated with Media Productions," added Kirinovic.

Ferris Cable 22 Television, which is maintained by the FSU Media Productions Department, also re-broadcasts selected FSU athletics events such as home men's ice hockey and football games throughout the year. Besides athletics, the channel broadcasts commencement exercises, student-produced programming from the Television and Digital Media Production department along with programming of interest to the campus and the community.
