The 2007 Ferris State football coaching staff will include Ted Egger, who returns for his third season at FSU this fall as the Bulldogs’ defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator.

Egger, who serveas as the program's video coordinator, arrived to Ferris State after spending the 2004 season at his alma mater and fellow NCAA Division II member Lock Haven (Pa.) University where he was the Bald Eagles’ defensive backs coach and video coordinator under former head coach Mark Luther.

Prior to his return to Lock Haven, Egger coached the previous two years (2002-03) at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., and remained at ASC through the spring of 2004 where he was the special teams coordinator. Egger also instructed the Grizzlies’ defensive secondary and outside linebackers along with assuming video coordinator duties. During his tenure, he coached five All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) players and also had one player receive back-to-back (2002-03) All-West Region accolades. Egger was instrumental in the Grizzlies boasting both the conference’s top defense and pass defense units in the 2003 season. In his initial campaign (2002) at Adams State, the Grizzlies placed second among the league’s leaders in pass defense. Egger also taught Physical Education classes while at ASC and was a substitute teacher in the Alamosa City School District.

Before his stint at Adams State, Egger was an assistant on Texas Lutheran University’s football coaching staff in the 2001 campaign. The Bulldogs’ defensive backs coach, Egger was also both the recruiting and video coordinator at the NCAA Division II school. While at TLU, he was an instructor in both weight training and aerobic/fitness exercise. Egger arrived at Texas Lutheran after leaving his teaching post at Baldwin High School in Maui, Hawaii, due to a statewide public school system strike.

A native of Hornell, N.Y., Egger was a three-year performer (1997-99) at defensive back for Lock Haven and graduated in 2000 with an undergraduate degree in health and physical education. He would go on to earn a Master’s Degree in Health Education and Physical Education from Adams State in 2002. Following his playing career, Egger remained at Lock Haven and gained his first collegiate coaching experience in 2000 by serving as a student assistant defensive coach, specifically with the secondary.

As a prep at Hornell High School, Egger earned all-conference honors in football as a senior. A four-year letterwinner (1993-96) in football, he also competed four years each in wrestling and track for the Red Raiders. Egger garnered both all-league and all-county accolades in wrestling and was the team captain in track during his senior season.

The son of Ted and Susan Egger of Hornell, N.Y., Egger is one of five children (two brothers and two sisters each).
