State's Clarence Coleman's Hat Trick Leads East All-Stars to Win in
Whataburger Cactus Bowl

KINGSVILLE,
TEXAS ---Ferris State University wide receiver Clarence Coleman scored twice on
pass receptions and on a 42-yard punt return to lead the East All-Stars to a
42-12 victory over the West in the Whataburger Cactus Bowl game here Friday
night in Texas A&M-Kingsville's Javelina Stadium.
A crowd of
12,500 saw the East build a 21-10 halftime lead and ice the game with two
unanswered touchdowns in the fourth period.
The game had 81
of the top senior players from NCAA Division II schools.
Coleman, from
Ferris (Mich.) State, had touchdown receptions of 12 and 45 yards and both were
from quarterback Brian Stallworth of Central Arkansas.
Coleman was
named the Most Valuable Back in the game.
The other East
touchdowns came on runs of seven and three yards by Dorrian Glen of Slippery
Rock (Pa.), and a two-yard sprint bhy Aamir Dew of Indiana (Pa.).
The only West
touchdown came on a four-yard pass play from quarterback Scott Mitchell
(Western Washington) to wideout Eric Spencer (Texas A&M-Kingsville). The
team also picked up a 37-yard field goal off the toe of Cameron Peterka (North
Dakota) and a safety.
Glen had 59
yards to lead the East rushing and Stallworth completed eight of 13 passes for
129 yards. Coleman had four receptions for 102 yarsd and also had four punt
returns for 56 yards, including the 42-yard scoring return.
Quarterback
Steve Kelly (Tarleton State) was the leading rusher for the West with 41 yarsd.
He completed five of 20 passes for 44 yards and Mitchell ended with six
completions in 17 attempts for 84 yards.
The victory was
only the second for the East team in the nine-year history of the game. The
West still leads the series, 6-2-1.
