Ferris State University football senior quarterback Ryan Kaul (Clarkston) was honored by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Monday (Oct. 17) as its Offensive Player of the Week for his notable effort in the Bulldogs' 62-42 conference home win over Northern Michigan last Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

Kaul played a pivotal role in Ferris State's most productive offensive display yet this season, accounting for 387 of the Bulldogs' 585 total yards. The 6-0, 208-pound signal-caller completed 21-of-25 passes (.840 completion pct.) for 330 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Kaul also ran for 57 yards on 17 carries (3.4 yards per attempt) and scored twice on runs of one and 11 yards.

In six outings this fall, Kaul has thrown for 1,235 yards and 10 TD's on 93-of-157 passing (59.2 completion pct.) and is averaging 205.8 yards per contest. With his 330-yard passing effort against Northern Michigan, Kaul surpassed the 1,000-yard single-season passing mark for the second consecutive season after throwing for a career-high 1,375 yards and nine TD's in 10 encounters last season. He presently ranks fourth among the squad's rushing leaders with 168 yards on 84 carries (2.0 ypa.) to go with three TD's. Kaul currently is eighth on FSU's all-time passing leaders chart with 2,795 career yards to go along with 20 TD's in 27 career appearances. He has completed 51.8 percent (219-423) of his passes with a 103.5 yards per game average. On the ground, Kaul has totaled 385 yards on 188 rush attempts for a 2.0 yards per carry average. Kaul's recognition represents the third time this season in which a Ferris State player has gained the weekly conference honor, joining sophomore quarterback C.J. Van Wieren and junior placekicker Josh Eichler (Tomball, Texas/Grand Rapids, Mich. C.C.). Van Wieren was honored as the GLIAC's Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 26) while Eichler was tabbed as the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week (Oct. 3).

Ferris State, which is 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the GLIAC to date, will venture to Michigan's Upper Peninsula this Saturday (Oct. 22) as the Bulldogs square off against the nationally-ranked Michigan Tech Huskies at MTU's Sherman Field in Houghton, Mich. A 1 p.m. (EDT) start time is scheduled for the conference contest.
