Lindy's named senior flanker Carlton Brewster to its 2005 All-Division II Offense First Team.

Ferris State University senior flanker Carlton Brewster (Grand Rapids/Creston) has been selected to Lindy’s 2005 All-Division II Preseason All-America First Team.

Lindy's is an annual college football publication which is in its 24th year of existance.

Brewster was the publication’s lone first-team selection from a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) school. Michigan Tech junior running back Lee Marana was a second-team offensive pick while Ashland senior linebacker Devin Conwell and senior defensive back Ben Bluemle were both second-team honorees on defense. Grand Valley State was ranked fifth in the publication’s preseason rankings while Michigan Tech placed 12th and Northwood was picked 14th. Pittsburg (Kan.) State, which finished runner-up to 2004 NCAA Division II National Champion Valdosta (Ga.) State, was tabbed as the nation’s top-ranked team entering the 2005 gridiron campaign.

The Bulldogs’ leading receiver the last two seasons, Brewster earned first-team All-GLIAC honors last season and garnered All-America Honorable Mention laurels by Don Hansen’s Weekly Football Gazette and D2Football.com. The 5-11, 214-pound wideout also received All-Northwest Region First-Team recognition from Daktronics, Inc., and Don Hansen’s Weekly Football Gazette while attaining second-team accolades by D2Football.com. He was recognized as Ferris State’s Most Valuable Offensive Skill Player for the 2004 season.

Brewster caught a career single-season best 81 passes for 1,230 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 outings a season ago. His season receiving yards output represented the third-best ever on Ferris’ all-time single-season leaders list. Among the final 2004 NCAA-II statistical leaders, Brewster was sixth in receptions (7.4 rpg.), eighth in receiving yards (111.8 ypg.), and 23rd in all-purpose yards (150.0 ypg.).

Brewster, who earned All-GLIAC Second-Team kudos both at receiver and as a return specialist in 2003, presently is fifth among the school’s all-time receiving leaders with 2,263 career yards on 174 receptions and 18 touchdowns in 32 games. Brewster’s 3,844 career all-purpose yards is sixth best on the Bulldog charts while his 567 punt return yards (7.8 ypr.) on 73 career returns is fourth highest in school annals. The 2002 FSU Special Teams Player of the Year has amassed 999 career yards on 57 kickoff returns (17.5 ypr.), which is fifth on Ferris’ all-time bests.

Ferris State opens its 2005 season and its 97th year of varsity competition Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Grand Valley State Lakers in Allendale, Mich. The conference opener is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (EDT) starting time at GVSU’s Arend D. Lubbers Stadium.
