FERRIS STATE FOOTBALL’S LIFT-A-THON EVENT SET FOR MARCH 18

Annual Bulldog Football Program’s Fundraiser To Be Held For 23rd Consecutive Year

Lift-A-Thon
The Ferris State football program will attempt to raise fund through its annual Lift-A-Thon fundraising event this month.

The Ferris State University football team in conjunction with the Ferris Gridiron Club will hold their 23rd annual Bulldog Lift-A Thon fundraising event Friday, March 18, at the Ferris State Convocation Center’s Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The football Lift-A-Thon, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. (EST) and is open free of charge to the public, represents the primary fund raiser for the Ferris State football program. The funds raised from this event will have a direct influence in maintaining the essential elements necessary for the Bulldogs to operate a competitive NCAA Division II football program in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), which is regarded as one of the nation’s top conferences. Proceeds from the Lift-A-Thon will go towards maintaining current student-athlete scholarships, recruitment of new student-athletes, improvement within the weight training facilities, and assistance in the financing of both spring drills and early fall practice camp. The goal for this year’s event is to generate over $20,000 for the 23rd consecutive year.

The Lift-A-Thon, which was developed in 1982, operates under the FSU Gridiron Club and every dollar contributed to the Lift-A-Thon will go directly to benefit the Ferris football program through the Gridiron Club. Furthermore, donations of at least $25 will qualify an individual for FSU Gridiron Club membership benefits.

Current members along with a football alumni representative (Rob Mida) will compete in the bench press. Pledges can be made on a per-pound basis or on a flat dollar rate donation based upon how much weight a participant can successfully bench. Rob Mida (2000-04) will attempt to successfully bench press 400 pounds.

Pledges or payment (checks) may be made out to Ferris State University Football and mailed to the following address: Football Office, Sports Complex 114, 210 Sports Drive, Big Rapids, Mich. 49307-2741.

Those individuals sponsoring a football student-athlete will be billed following the event on the person’s per-pound commitment.

For more information and/or to make a donation to the Lift-A-Thon event, contact Ferris State football assistant coach Matt McCarthy at (231) 591-2865 or via e-mail at mccarthm@ferris.edu.
