Brewster Earns Conference First-Team Accolades; Jeff Williams Named To Second Team

Seven Ferris State University football student-athletes earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) recognition for the 2005 season as announced by the conference office. The selections were voted on by the league's 13 head coaches.

Carlton Brewster received All-GLIAC First-Team honors for the second consecutive season.

Senior flanker Carlton Brewster (Grand Rapids/Creston) was the lone Bulldog representative on the 17-member first team while senior guard Jeff Williams (West Branch/Ogemaw Heights) was Ferris' only second-team pick. Five other Ferris State players were tabbed honorable mention selections in senior split end Brandis Bowie (Lansing/Sexton), senior quarterback Ryan Kaul (Clarkston), senior cornerback Jim Skodak (Lennon/Corunna), junior middle linebacker Mike Klobucher (Grand Haven/North Muskegon), and redshirt freshman defensive tackle Jake Visser (Coopersville).

Brewster was a repeat (2004-05) all-conference first-team pick after pacing the Bulldogs this season with 60 receptions for 921 yards and seven TD's in 11 games. He ranks 36th nationally in receiving yards per game (83.7 ypg.) and 46th in receptions a game (5.5 avg.). Brewster, who received All-America Honorable Mention plaudits by Don Hansen's Football Gazette and D2Football.com last season, finished his career as the school's second all-time leading receiver with 3,184 career receiving yards and 25 TD's on 234 catches in 43 contests. He also placed fifth among the GLIAC's all-time receiving yardage leaders with 2,923 yards on 213 receptions in conference contests only. Brewster was a second-team all-conference pick in 2003 both as a receiver and a return specialist.

A three-year starter at right guard, Williams played a key role in the Bulldogs earning a 45th national ranking in passing offense (231.2 ypg.) and a 76th place listing in total offense (350.0 ypg.). The two-time (2003-04) GLIAC All-Academic honoree received honorable mention all-league laurels in 2002 and has served as an offensive co-captain the last two years.

Jeff Williams was named a second-team All-GLIAC selection.

Bowie finished third in team receiving with 29 grabs for 372 yards and a career-best five TD's in 11 outings. His 1,380 career yards in receiving on 120 catches in 42 contests currently ranks ninth best on FSU's all-time bests chart. Kaul directed the Ferris State offense by throwing for a career-best 1,924 yards and 14 TD's on 144-of-251 passing (57.4%) in nine appearances. The signal-caller also rushed for 280 yards and four TD's on 119 carries which was second highest on the squad. Kaul, who will use his extra year of eligibility next fall, is sixth among the school's career passing yards leaders with 3,484 career yards on 30 outings. He currently ranks 33rd in total offense (244.9 ypg.) and 41st in passing efficiency (133.0 rating pts.) among the NCAA-II leaders.

Skodak earned all-conference honorable mention kudos for the third straight season (2003-05) as a result of compiling 28 tackles (18 solos) to go with a team-high tying three pass interceptions for zero yards. The defensive co-captain led the Bulldogs in punt returns with 16 for a career season-best 175 yards (10.9 ypr.) and also racked up 199 yards on 15 kickoff returns (13.3 ypr.). Skodak, who also has an extra year of eligibility remaining and will return next season, presently ranks 40th nationally in punt returns (10.9 ypr.).

Klobucher was the Bulldogs' leading tackler for the second consecutive season with 109 tackles (45 solos) in 10 games. The defensive co-captain registered 6.5 tackles for a loss of 16 yards to go with a fumble recovery and two forced fumbles. He currently is 14th among the national statistical leaders in total tackles (10.9 avg.) and ranks 44th in solos stops (4.9 avg.). Klobucher also attained honorable mention all-league laurels in 2004.

Visser turned in an impressive season performance in his collegiate debut as his 98 total tackles (43 solos) ranked second on the team. He totaled eight tackles for a loss of 29 yards, which included four quarterback sacks for minus 22 yards. He also had two fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, and four quarterback hurries as an 11-game starter at left tackle. Visser is presently 49th in forced fumbles (0.27 avg.) on the national leaders board.

Ferris State concluded its 2005 season at 3-8-0 overall with an eighth-place tying 3-7-0 GLIAC mark.
