Senior Carlton Brewster has been named to the 2005 AFCA Division II Coaches' All-America Team.

Brewster is among 25 student-athletes named to this year’s AFCA Division II Coaches’ All-America Team, which consists of 21 seniors and four juniors. The AFCA All-America Team features 11 members apiece on offense and defense while three individuals were honored as specialists.

The AFCA Division II Coaches’ All-America Team is comprised of players from NCAA Division II and NAIA institutions. The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all four of its divisions. AFCA Coaches’ All-America Team members receive a plaque commemorating their selection to the team.

Along with Brewster, representatives from other Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schools include defensive lineman Michael McFadden of Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley State linebacker John DiGiorgio.

With his selection, Brewster joins outside linebacker Kevin Myers (2004 and 2005) and flanker Clarence Coleman (2001) as the most recent Bulldogs to receive the prestigious honor. Past Ferris State standouts also selected as AFCA All-Americans include running back Chuck Evans (1976), outside linebacker Monty Brown (1992), defensive tackle Ed Philion (1993), tailback Tyree Dye (1994), quarterback Bill Love (1995), defensive tackle Kelly Chisholm (1996) and kicker-punter Doc Proctor (1999).

Brewster, a 2005 D2Football.com All-Northwest Region First-Team selection, was the Bulldogs’ leading receiver this fall for the third straight season with 60 receptions for 921 yards and seven TD’s in 11 contests. He garnered first-team All-GLIAC laurels for the second consecutive season (2004-05) and was also a repeat FSU Most Valuable Offensive Skill Player Award winner. The 5-11, 214-pound receiver finished this fall with five 100-yard plus receiving performances, including a season-best 137 yards and two TD’s on eight catches against Northern Michigan (10/15). He presently ranks 36th among the NCAA Division II national statistics leaders in receiving yards per game (83.7 ypg.) and is 46th in receptions per game (5.5 avg.). His 921 yards in receiving this season represented the 10th highest single-season total on the Bulldogs’ receiving yardage chart.

Brewster finished his four-year career as the school’s second all-time leading receiver with 3,184 receiving yards and 25 TD’s on 234 catches in 43 career outings. He placed fifth among the conference’s career receiving yards leaders with 2,923 total yards on 213 receptions in league games only. Brewster , who was an All-America Honorable Mention honoree by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette and D2Football.com a season ago, ranks third on FSU’s career leaders list in kickoff returns (1,197 yds.), fourth in punt returns (588 yds.), fifth in all-purpose yards (5,029 yds.), and eighth in scoring (164 pts.).

Ferris State registered a 3-8-0 overall record for the 2005 campaign, which included an eighth-place tying 3-7-0 conference ledger.
