The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) of which Ferris State is a member featured six first-team representatives from conference-member schools. Senior defensive lineman Keyonta Marshall of two-time defending national champion Grand Valley State along with Hillsdale senior linebacker Josh Mott and Myers made the first-team defensive list. Offensively, senior quarterback Mark Radlinski and senior lineman Todd Herremans, both of Saginaw Valley State, were joined by Michigan Tech senior offensive lineman Joe Berger. A total of 10 individuals from the GLIAC were either named to the first or second team for offense, defense and special teams. Grand Valley State was tabbed number one in D2Football.com Top 25 preseason poll while Saginaw Valley State was chosen third and North Dakota second.
The preseason honor was the third for Myers this campaign as he was earlier selected to both Street & Smith’s and Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-America Teams. Myers turned in his most productive season ever last fall with a career-high and conference-leading 141 tackles (87 solo) in 11 contests, which ranks the 13th best total among the Bulldogs’ all-time single-season leaders. On a national level, the 5-11, 210-pound linebacker was second in solo tackles (7.9 avg.) and fourth in total tackles (12.8 avg.) and forced fumbles (0.45 avg.).
Following the 2003 campaign, Myers was named to the All-GLIAC First Team along with being chosen Ferris State’s Most Valuable Defensive Skill Player. He went on to gain All-America laurels by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and The Associated Press (AP) while
picking up second-team kudos from Daktronics, Inc. and the Football Gazette. Myers also posted D2Football.com All-America Honorable Mention accolades after previously being selected a first-team All-Northeast Region honoree by Daktronics, the Football Gazette and D2Football.com.
In 31 career Ferris State appearances, Myers has accumulated 302 tackles (174 solos) to presently rank 14th on the Bulldogs’ all-time leaders list. Myers has produced 16 career double-digit game tackle efforts to go along with 9.5 tackles for a loss of 17 yards, one quarterback sack for minus five yards, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 17 pass deflections and six pass interceptions for 41 yards.
Ferris State embarks on its 2004 season this Saturday (Aug. 28) as the Bulldogs entertain their archrivals the Grand Valley State Lakers at FSU’s Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. Starting time for the GLIAC opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. (EDT).
