FERRIS STATE FOOTBALL UNVEILS NEW LOOK

Bulldogs To Have A Modernized Appearance On The Field

The 2003 season will be a unique one for the Ferris State University football program as the Bulldogs will be sporting new uniforms, both home and away.

The 2003 Bulldog senior class initiated a fundraising project towards the purchase of new home and away jerseys with the intent of giving the team not only a new look but also a more modern one. The fundraising endeavor solely involved the current members of the FSU football team, who raised almost $14,000 to cover the costs of the jerseys primarily through a major raffle which was conducted during this past winter. Serving as co-chairs for the project were a pair of seniors, center-guard Matt Desmarais (Jackson/Lumen Christi) and middle linebacker Luke Piepkow (Jackson/Lumen Christi).

"I'm excited for the amount of effort which was put forth in this project," said FSU head coach Jeff Pierce. "Them having the initiative to make this change and display the pride to accomplish this task means as much to me as the new jerseys themselves.

"In a way, this energizes the program and gives the guys more ownership in the program," added Pierce.

Besides the new jerseys, the football program is also considering changing their current gold colored helmets to maroon while keeping the maroon facemask along with the Bulldogs script on both sides of the helmet. A future fundraising campaign conducted by the student-athletes will allow for white uniform pants to be purchased for home contests possibly for this upcoming campaign.

Ferris State will officially kickoff the 2003 season Saturday, Sept. 6, versus the Hillsdale College Chargers in a non-conference away contest. Starting time for the season opener is 7 p.m. (EDT) at HC's Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadium in Hillsdale, Mich.
