Ferris State To Hold Raffle In Matt Sklom's Memory This Weekend

NFL's Detroit Lions Donate Items To Raise Proceeds In Former Player's Name

The Ferris State Athletics Department has announced that the National Football League's Detroit Lions have donated two Thanksgiving Day game tickets, which will be raffled off in memory of former FSU football player Matt Sklom at this Saturday's (Oct. 12) 2 p.m. (EDT) homecoming contest versus Michigan Tech. Sklom, a freshman, died of heart complications during a practice last month. The ticket package also includes two pre-game sideline passes for the Lions' annual Thanksgiving Day football game slated for Thursday, Nov. 28 against the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

As a second raffle item, the Lions also donated an authentic game jersey signed by kicker Jason Hanson. All proceeds from the raffle will benefit the FSU Athletics Department weight room in Sklom's name. Tickets will be available for fans to purchase prior to this Saturday's contest and throughout the first half with the items being raffled off during halftime festivities. Those wishing to purchase raffle tickets are encouraged to stop by the table near the main entrance of Top Taggart Field. The FSU cheerleading squad will begin selling raffle tickets at 11 a.m. (EDT) and will also be selling tickets throughout the stadium.

The cost of the tickets are:

$1 each
$5 for 6 tickets
$10 for 15 tickets
$20 for "nose to toes"

Donations will also be accepted throughout Saturday's contest in Matt's memory. Those who are unable to attend Saturday's game but would like to make a donation are encouraged to contact the FSU Athletics Department at (231) 591-2861.
