FERRIS FOOTBALL OPENS 2008 FALL CAMP NEXT WEEK
The Ferris State University football program will begin preseason preparations for the 2008 campaign next Wednesday (Aug. 6) as the squad's freshmen report to campus for the first time.
The Bulldogs' returning veterans will report Thursday (Aug. 7) with the squad's first official practice set for Friday (Aug. 8) morning. FSU will hold 25 workouts along with two scrimmages prior to the team's season opener on Aug. 30.

Ferris' three-week training camp period will not only feature practices and scrimmages, but also meetings, lifting, conditioning, testing and various orientation sessions. Practices will be held both on the FSU practice fields along with selected ones on the newly-installed Mondo Ecofill artificial surface at Top Taggart Field.
FSU's initial preseason scrimmage is set for Saturday, Aug. 16, at 9:30 a.m. (EDT). The final scrimmage will be held prior to FSU's annual media/photo day activities on Friday, Aug. 22. The scrimmage will begin at 9 a.m. (EDT) with the media/photo day taking place at 1 p.m. (EDT).
"It's an exciting time of year and we're ready to go," said FSU head coach Jeff Pierce. "Our student-athletes have really committed themselves during the offseason and that should help prepare us for the challenges ahead."
The Bulldogs posted a 6-5 overall record on the field during the 2007 campaign, which represented the program's eighth winning campaign in 13 years under Pierce and marked the 13th time in the last 19 years the Bulldogs have finished above .500 for the year. However, the record was changed to 7-4 overall in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings, reflecting Saginaw Valley State's decision to forfeit four games last campaign. FSU placed tied for fourth in the conference as the school's final league record was 6-4 following the earned forfeit.
Ferris State will kickoff its 100th season of varsity competition Saturday, Aug. 30, against the Tiffin (Ohio) Dragons in a 2:30 p.m. (EDT) non-conference contest at Tiffin, Ohio. The Bulldogs, who will play an 11-game regular-season schedule, then open GLIAC action the following Saturday, Sept. 6, on the road at 1 p.m. (EDT) versus the Ashland Eagles in Ashland, Ohio. FSU's home opener is slated for Saturday, Sept. 13, against the Findlay Oilers with kickoff set for 7 p.m. (EDT) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
Along with the home opener against Findlay, the 11-game regular-season schedule features four other home contests.
