Senior Tailback Rushes For Career-High 201 Yards And Four Touchdowns

Senior tailback Shawn Grigg (Allegan) of the 2006 Ferris State University football team has been selected as this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Week as announced Monday (Oct. 2) by the league office.
Grigg rushed for a career-high 201 yards on 27 carries (7.4 avg.) and scored four touchdowns in Ferris' 42-24 conference win over Northern Michigan Saturday (Sept. 30) at NMU's Superior Dome in Marquette, Mich. He scored on runs of 16 and nine yards in the first half and then tallied two second-half TD's with rushing scores of four and 10 yards as the Bulldog chalked up a season-high 321 yards on the ground. He also had two pass receptions for 22 yards, which included a 14-yard catch. The 5-9, 200-pound back's 201 yards eclipsed his previous career high of 68 rushing yards on 17 carries versus Ashland in 2005 (9/3).
Grigg presently has totaled a team third-place 221 rushing yards and four TD's on 34 attempts in five games this season and is averaging 6.5 yards per carry. In 24 career outings, Grigg has ran for 564 yards on 112 carries with six TD's with a 5.0 yards per rush average. He has 14 career receptions for 168 yards and is averaging 12.0 yards per grab.
Ferris State, which is presently 4-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the GLIAC this season, will host the Michigan Tech University Huskies this Saturday (Oct. 6) in a 2 p.m. (EDT) conference tilt at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The Ferris State Athletics Department will be holding its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day in conjunction with the football contest.
