BULLDOGS STENGTHEN DEFENSIVE LINE BY ADDING KURT HOUT
All-Conference Lineman Played At Northern Colorado Last Two Years
Kurt Hout (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West), who earned honorable mention All-Great West Football Conference (GWFC) honors in 2005 while playing defensive end for the University of Northern Colorado, has transferred to Ferris State University and is eligible to suit up for the Bulldogs starting with this upcoming 2006 campaign. The announcement was made by Ferris head coach Jeff Pierce.
"We're excited to have Kurt on our football team," said Pierce. "He's a talented player, who has been successful at each level throughout his football-playing career.
"He plays the game with a lot of emotion and intensity. Kurt is an exceptional hard worker and relishes the opportunity to compete," added Pierce.
Hout will have two years of eligibility remaining after competing the last two seasons (2004-05) at Northern Colorado under former head coach O. Kay Dalton.
The 6-2, 245-pound lineman started all 11 games last season for the NCAA Division I-AA Bears, who compiled a 4-7 overall record with an 0-5 GWFC mark. He finished fifth on the team with 46 total tackles (21 solos) and had 10 tackles for a loss of 49 yards. Hout paced all UNC defensive linemen with 6.5 quarterback sacks, which ranked fourth highest in the conference. His 10 tackles for loss rated ninth best among the GWFC's 2005 statistical leaders.

The lineman chalked up a personal career-best 2.5 quarterback sacks in a 45-14 decision against Fort Lewis (10/29).
Hout, who was redshirted in 2003, made his collegiate season debut in 2004 and made five total stops (two solos) in seven outings. He registered a season-high four tackles in the Bears' 38-0 loss at Maine (9/11). Hout had one tackle and a pass break up in UNC's 42-7 victory over Southern Utah (11/6).
A 2003 graduate of Arvada (Colo.) West High School, Hout was an all-conference defensive end under head coach Casey Coons.
Kurt is the son of Tammra Morris.
