BIG RAPIDS – Ferris is ranked eighth in the nation, but is hopeful it can capitalize on the shot to ultimately finish in that No. 1 spot.

The Bulldogs, no strangers to post-season championship action, has qualified for the 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf East Super Regional (May 3-5) at Cedarbrook Golf Course in California, Pa.

Ferris, led by second-year head coach Michael Mignano, is seeded third in the region. Above Ferris, Grand Valley is the top seed and Indianapolis is second. The fourth seed is California (Pa.), Ashland is fifth, Drury sixth, Southern Indiana seventh, Northern Kentucky eighth and Findlay is ninth.

The Bulldogs now know how the seeds stack up. It will be interesting to see how Ferris responds to trying to climb to the top of the rankings to earn another trip to the national championships. It’s simple for the Bulldogs: The top three teams (and the top three individuals not affiliated with a team from each super regional) advance to the national championships.

This spring’s NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships take place May 13-16 at the University of Findlay (Ohio) Golf Course.
