BLOG 8: Nationally-ranked Ferris women take aim at GLIAC title

By Sandy Gholston

FSU Golf BIG RAPIDS – This season has been yet another banner campaign of golf for Ferris State University’s women’s team. Still, for the Bulldogs, plenty of work remains to be completed.

The squad has been very competitive in recent tournaments and FSU head coach Michael Mignano believes his nationally-ranked squad could be geared up for a breakthrough effort in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament.

“The team has had an outstanding week of practice leading up to this year’s GLIAC Championship,” Mignano said. “Preparation levels are high including mental and physical conditioning. Seniors Alison Meyer, Raquel Hansen and Meghan Hunter have led this team to great success throughout the fall and spring seasons.”

While Ferris has relied heavily on its veterans, naturally so, Mignano has been pleased with contributions he has received from younger members of the squad – names that will soon become familiar as they begin to carry the torch for one of the top women’s golf programs in Division II.

“Freshman Blaize Baumgartner, Erin Fuchik, and Bryce Hetchler have also contributed to help round out the lineup,” Mignano said of his nationally-ranked men’s golf team. “We are excited for conference and post-season play and the opportunity to see all of the hard work come together.”
