BLOG 3: Congrats to Alison Meyer on GLIAC honor
By Sandy Gholston
BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University junior women’s golfer Alison Meyer had a strong summer of competition, back in her home state of Minnesota, and it might be paying off for her this fall.
Meyer, a National Golf Coaches Association Division II Women’s Collegiate Golf All-America Honorable Mention choice last season (2007-08), was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week.
Meyer, who helped lead the Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish in the 2008 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf National Championships in Texas, was a big part of Ferris’ seventh-place finish at last weekend’s Michigan Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor as she shot a 76 to lead her team and finish five over par.
A two-time All-GLIAC First-Team player and two-time league all-academic choice, Meyer claimed medalist honors at the 2008 Minnesota Women’s Golf State Amateur Tournament in Edina.
It’s exciting to see Meyer continue her solid play for a Ferris State program ranked fifth in the nation, but with eyes on another big run this season in golf.
