BIG RAPIDS – It’s no big secret Ferris State University is looking for a big season from senior shooting guard Teghan Thelen.

But, Thelen’s hot start might have even caught herself and the Bulldogs a bit by surprise. As the team opened the season with two games in the Kentucky Wesleyan Lady Panther Classic, it was Thelen who turned in a classic two-day performance. The Pewamo native poured in a career-best 36 points in the team’s 83-77 win over Kentucky Wesleyan and then added 26 points, on 7-of-17 shooting from the floor and 3-of-8 from outside 3-point arc, as the team fell short in a 68-62 loss to Indianapolis.

For her efforts, Thelen was deservedly named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week representing the Bulldogs (1-1).

Against Kentucky Wesleyan, en route to her career-best total, Thelen broke the school’s single-game record for 3-pointers (8-of-12) as she knocked down eight. The previous record was seven drained by Lori Young during a 1992 game against Michigan Tech. Thelen is off to a great start and we can probably expect more good things as she continues to expand her game with the addition of the dribble drive to complement her top-notch perimeter shooting.
