BIG RAPIDS – The roller-coaster ride continues for the Ferris State University women’s team, who split a pair of road games in the Upper Peninsula in spite of having to play without head coach Tracey Dorow (who was at home for precautionary reasons as she is expecting to have her first child).

Against Northern, the Bulldogs rallied around assistant coach Crystal Harris (who was serving as head coach) and Mark DeNoyelles (serving as her assistant). Ferris went to Marquette and walked away with a 66-59 win. But, Saturday, Ferris got a glimpse of why Michigan Tech is ranked 10th in the nation in Division II women’s basketball. The Huskies jumped out to a big lead and cruised to an 80-70 win Saturday in Houghton.

Ferris returns to Big Rapids 6-12 overall and 4-10 in the GLIAC standings. The Bulldogs will sneak in a few days of classes and preparation before returning to the road for a two-game trip that will see Ferris travel to No. 7 Hillsdale, on Thursday, and Findlay, on Saturday.

Against Northern, on Thursday, Ashley Fleming made a strong return to the lineup as she finished with a team-best 18 points with eight rebounds. Andrea Clancy scored in double digits with 11 points while Jenna Guay, a native of the Upper Peninsula, totaled 10 points and five rebounds.

Against Tech, on Saturday, Teghan Thelen led the Bulldogs with 17 points as she hit 3-of-5 shots from outside of the 3-point line. Guay added 14 points and seven rebounds while Fleming again reached double digits in the scoring column with 11 points and four boards.

Led by Katie Wysocky (18 points) and Sarah Stream (17 points) Michigan Tech simply had too many weapons for the Bulldogs and lived up to their high national ranking.
