BIG RAPIDS – It’s still relatively early. So, the Ferris State University women’s basketball team is still in contention in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title chase.

The Bulldogs broke a four-game losing streak thanks to a convincing 108-49 non-conference victory over visiting Marygrove on Dec. 29 in Big Rapids at Jim Wink Arena. Now, Ferris returns to league play with road competition at Lake Superior State University, Thursday in Sault Ste. Marie, and at Saginaw Valley State University, Saturday in University Center.

Lake Superior is playing well at this early portion of the GLIAC season and a big reason for that is its strength in the paint with two strong post players to complement some solid guard play on the perimeter. The Lakers are 2-4 in the league, but 9-5 overall entering the week. Saginaw Valley has struggled mightily at 1-10 overall and 0-6 in the conference entering this week.

The Bulldogs have two good opportunities to steal road wins, but it must elevate their game, this weekend, to get the job done. Nothing comes easy in the GLIAC on the road or at home. Ferris is just 1-2 at home – the two losses being league setbacks to Hillsdale (Dec. 13) and Findlay (Dec. 14). The Bulldogs (3-6 overall and 1-4 in the GLIAC) need to go on the road and get those wins back. This week is as good a time as any to get started.
