BIG RAPIDS – It was nice to see Ferris State University’s women’s basketball team get back to playing its high-octane brand of college ball.

Ferris started slow against Marygrove, on Monday (Dec. 29), but turned it on and cruised to a decisive 108-49 non-conference win to improve to 3-6. So potent was the offense that the Bulldogs nearly broke the school’s single-game scoring record (112). Every Ferris player who played scored and every player who played was credited with at least two rebounds – two things highlighted by Ferris head coach Tracey Dorow after the game.

One of the major bright spots for the Bulldogs was the production they received from their posts, including 6-1 senior Ashley Fleming, who finished with 18 points and three rebounds. Additionally, 6-2 junior Andrea Clancy came off the bench to score eight points and grab seven rebounds.

Steady senior forward Caitlin Hutchison and high-energy sophomore forward Tiara Adams, though somewhat undersized to play inside, had strong efforts. Hutchison totaled 12 points and grabbed four rebounds while Adams scored 11 points and yanked down three boards. Both were quietly efficient as always. Also, 6-1 senior Jenna Guay came off the bench to contribute nine points with four rebounds.

Continued strong post play like that should bode well for the Bulldogs later in the season. Ferris must, however, show this kind of productivity against much stronger competition it will face when it returns to GLIAC competition on Jan. 8.
