BIG RAPIDS – Ferris has to be happy to be home in Ewigleben Sports Arena for this weekend’s pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches at home.
The Bulldogs host Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech this weekend on Friday, at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m., respectively. Expect two more tough matches as two of the three Upper Peninsula schools roll into Big Rapids. Ferris hopes to reverse what has been a challenging stretch of matches during which the team has lost four of its last five matches (two in Florida against Minnesota State and Tampa, one in Midland against Northwood and one Tuesday in Allendale against No. 8 Grand Valley State). The win in this stretch of five matches was a five-set win over Wayne State in Detroit.
So, the Bulldogs bring a record of 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC standings.
The contests against Northern, traditionally one of the elite teams in the conference, and Tech, an always-strong and improving program, are important matches for the Bulldogs who then go back on the road (to the Upper Peninsula to face Lake Superior State on Sept. 26 and back down to University Center to challenge Saginaw Valley State on Sept. 27).
