BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University’s women’s volleyball program recently announced the winners of its team-sponsored awards for the 2008 fall campaign.

The Most Valuable Player award was given to senior setter/outside hitter Candice Marut, who picked up quite a few honors. Marut and redshirt freshman libero Lisa Tobiczyk were named recipients of the Bulldog Award (presented to the player or players who show the heart and desire of a Bulldog), Marut and fellow senior setter/outside hitter Andrea Rich were honored with the Senior Award while the Coaches Award (to the player or players demonstrating the most consistency on the court, in the classroom and with teammates) went to Rich and sophomore defensive specialist Dana Ruttle.

Marut and Rich, two cornerstones of much of the team’s success during their careers, can leave with their heads held high – even if the last season did not end with the level of success both surely wanted. The versatile duo persevered and proved to be competitors on the court and competitors in life. As a team, the Bulldogs finished 16-13 overall and 8-8 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division. Still, both Marut and Rich have been integral parts of a program that has been a fairly consistent regular-season winner with 11 straight winning seasons and 11 seasons in a row earning a bid to the GLIAC Tournament.

Congratulations to Marut and Rich and to all the winners of awards for the Bulldogs to cap the 2008 season.
