BIG RAPIDS – This has been a bit of a season of streaks for the Bulldog volleyball team, but the current stretch of success has been most impressive of all, thus far.
After losing a pair of hard-fought five-set contests at home to Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech (Sept. 19, 20), the Bulldogs have been on fire winning eight of their last nine matches – including an impressive showing at this weekend’s Asics GLVC-GLIAC Crossover Tournament in Indianapolis (winning three of four).
Although the Bulldogs would love to have a few more victories from some of those tough losses earlier in the fall, this is not a bad time to be experiencing a streak of success. This positive streak has put Ferris back closer to the level of success it normally is accustomed to on the court.
Ferris (15-8 overall, 7-4 in GLIAC) would love to have its momentum continue to run strong entering this last stretch of important regular-season contests.
In the Asics GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament, Ferris was a 3-1 winner over Missouri-St. Louis and a 3-2 victor over Drury, Friday. The Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 decision to 17th-ranked Lewis, Saturday, to snap an eight-match winning streak.
Katie Edwards is leading the team with 237 kills this season while Arielle Goodson is not too far off that pace with 210. Kristy Gilchrist has 180, Andrea Rich has 135, Sarah Lark has 122 and Ashley Huntey has 105 to her credit. The Bulldog setters Rich and Candice Marut have 544 and 289, respectively.
Defensively, Lisa Tobiczyk leads the Bulldogs with 301 digs while Rich has 235, Huntey has 203, Dana Ruttle has 122 and Marut has 108.
