BIG RAPIDS – Coming off a 6-5 season, Ferris State University wasted little time getting to work in the weight room to prepare for the spring season.

The culmination of the winter workout program is, of course, the annual Lift-A-Thon (a fund-raising event). Matt McCarthy, Ferris’ offensive coordinator, indicated that Ferris had a solid winter program to get the team ready for the spring. Because there will be a lot of new faces in the mix for the Bulldogs, during the upcoming fall season of 2009, Ferris knows that a lot will be on the line with spring practice.

But, for a lot of these guys, spring practice started during the winter workouts as guys worked to show the coaches their dedication with work in the weight room.

“I think we’ve worked hard this winter to get ourselves ready for what we’re going to need to do this spring to get ourselves ready,” said McCarthy, who will have his work cut out for him this season developing a young and talented offensive unit that gained experience last season. “I think during our winter workouts we really developed some toughness and we’re going to need that this spring and we’re definitely going to need that when these guys come back in the fall.”
