BIG RAPIDS – Quarterback Kyle Parrish is no longer buying talk about Ferris State University’s offense being young.

This season, the senior-to-be quarterback is among a large group of players echoing a familiar theme on and off the football field: Save the excuses and just get the job done when it matters.

“There really are no more excuses for us or any talk about us being young or anything like that,” said Parrish, a junior college quarterback transferring into Ferris’ program after beginning his college career in his home state of California. “We all have to step it up and make sure we’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing to make our offense as successful as we can make it.”

Last fall, his first at Ferris, Parrish played in eight games and started two twice as he passed for 911 yards and six touchdowns as he split the quarterback duties with Tom Schneider. This spring, the two are locked in a competitive quarterback battle with both guys having proven themselves capable of running and leading the offense.

“I think, as an offense, we’re definitely feeling more of a bond having gone through all we had to go through last season,” said Parrish, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Garden Grove, Calif. who competed two seasons at Compton Community College before bringing his skills to Ferris. “Now we have to put all the pieces together and make it work for us this spring and then make it work for us in the fall.”
