BIG RAPIDS – Ferris knew it had an experienced offense returning for next season and that was evident during the team’s first spring scrimmage.

Quarterbacks Kyle Parrish, Tom Schneider and Robert Banaszak took turns running the offense for the Bulldogs during Friday morning’s scrimmage that took place at Top Taggart Field. Solid performances by the signal callers were only part of the story. In addition, Ferris enjoyed solid efforts that led to a few big plays from the offensive units.

Earlier in the week, the offense had struggles that left offensive coordinator Matt McCarthy none too pleased. McCarthy, a former standout quarterback for the Bulldogs during his college playing career, made a point to let his offensive unit know expectations are high for the group in the fall and focus is essential. He made sure the unit understood that the path to meeting those high expectations begins immediately.

Some younger offensive guys like David Johnson, Arshaun Hall and others made key plays to create glimpses of the future.

The defense had its moments during the scrimmage showing an ability, at times, to get to the offensive quarterback and to play tough in the secondary (led by the likes of Chad Wilson, Russell Weatherspoon, Santino Favot and others).
