BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University put held its annual Lift-A-Thon to raise funds for the football program and once again met with success.
The Lift-A-Thon is the unofficial gateway that takes Bulldog Football from the close of winter workouts to the start of spring practice. Of course, the Lift-A-Thon is an important fund-raising effort for the program as it works to keep Bulldog football financially stable as it competes against some of the best Division II teams in the nation as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
For head coach Jeff Pierce, who has gone through his fair share of Lift-A-Thon fund-raising efforts, more hard work is ahead for his guys.
“The Lift-A-Thon is important because it helps us generate some of the necessary funds we need to support our football program,” Pierce said. “The second reason the Lift-A-Thon is important is because it is an opportunity for our guys to show how hard they’ve been working through the winter as they get ready for the spring season.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Ferris offensive coordinator Matt McCarthy, who served as one of the primary organizers of the event.
“It’s a good ending to our winter conditioning program and it’s also the start of our spring season,” McCarthy said. “Those two factors make this an important event for our football program.”
