BLOG 20: Kitchen and Fortuna are two more athletes for Bulldog soccer

By Sandy Gholston

FSU Soccer BIG RAPIDS – It’s a very competitive atmosphere on the soccer field in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Ferris head coach Neathan Gibson is working hard to help his team climb the ladder toward the top – a top spot owned now by Grand Valley State, one of the top women’s soccer programs in the nation.

With his current recruiting class, Gibson is working hard to become even more athletic and tougher on the soccer field.

Gibson has started his soccer recruiting class with two players who fit the mold he is putting in place.

The Bulldogs announced the commitments of defender Madison “Maddy” Kitchen and forward Lauren Fortuna.

Gibson describes Kitchen as a “tough hard-working defender” and that is precisely what all teams – including the Bulldogs – covet. The Bulldogs want to continue to strengthen their defense to make life easier on their keeper and to help ignite their offense.

The head coach of the Bulldogs describes Fortuna as “a fast front runner that can finish goals.” That is something any coach loves to have. At times, during the 2008 season, the Bulldogs (who finished 9-9-1 last season) had a difficult time generating quality scoring opportunities and then finishing on some of the chances they did create.
