BIG RAPIDS – Ferris will have a valuable opportunity to avenge an earlier season loss and perhaps climb the standings in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Bulldogs challenge league rivals Saginaw Valley State (Oct. 24) and Northwood (Oct. 25) this weekend in their final regular-season soccer contests of 2008. This fall, particularly during the last couple of weeks, Ferris has been on a bit of a roller-coaster ride with a 3-3-1 record in their last seven games.
Ferris hopes to avenge a 3-1 home loss to the Cardinals earlier in the season (Oct. 3) while they attempt to earn a series sweep against the Timberwolves in the regular season finale. On Oct. 5, the Bulldogs were a 4-1 winner over Northwood.
The good news is opponents have mostly had a tough time scoring against Ferris’ defense and that is a trend head coach Neathan Gibson hopes continues – complemented by a more prolific offensive attack that produces more chances and more results on the scoreboard.
Ferris is coming off a 2-1 overtime win in its last game as Bri Borgman scored on a penalty kick to snap the 1-1 tie and led the Bulldogs to a home victory over Findlay (last Sunday).
FSU keeper Becci Houdek was strong in goal as she stopped 12 shots against the one goal allowed in 91:45 of work.
