BIG RAPIDS – Historically, Ferris has had basketball teams with talented and athletic players on the wing.

That tradition continues with this current recruiting class head coach Bill Sall’s coaching staff is putting together. Previously, the Bulldogs signed and athletic wing player in Detroit Renaissance High School’s 6-foot-5 forward Daniel Sutherlin. The latest signee is 6-foot-5 forward Asaad Robinson of Hamtramck, who prepped at Detroit Northwestern High School.

So, once again, the Motor City proves good for the Bulldogs. Robinson may have slipped under the recruiting radar as the result of an injury he suffered. Ferris may have been the right team in the right place at the right time to successfully recruit Robinson.

“Asaad is a good athlete with a solid mid-range game who takes the ball to the basket well,” Sall said of Robinson, who was highly rated among some Internet-based prep Web sites. “A hand injury hampered him for part of this past season, but he came on strong at the end. A number of schools were recruiting him, but he really felt Division II basketball at Ferris State was the best fit for him.”

Robinson appears to be a good fit for the Bulldogs who want to continue to add depth at the wing and guard positions while continuing the search for front-court depth to support the team’s size and strength in the paint.

During some of Ferris’ most successful seasons under Sall, the team has compensated for a lack of height in the paint with dominance on the perimeter and gang rebounding inside (utilizing athletic wing players).
