BIG RAPIDS – Leaving a potential win on the table, thanks to a hard-fought 66-58 loss to Michigan Tech, Ferris bounced back to earn a split with a 73-63 victory at the expense of Northern Michigan.

But, a 1-1 weekend was not what the Bulldogs had in mind entering last Thursday’s home game against MTU. What that 1-1 weekend does, however, is make these next two home games (the final regular-season games of the season in Jim Wink Arena) all the more important for Ferris. The Bulldogs have games coming up against Saginaw Valley State on Thursday and Lake Superior State on Saturday.

The Bulldogs were victimized by a great road game played by MTU on Thursday. The Huskies were patient on offense, rebounded well, defended well and hit big shots. FSU had some uncharacteristic miscues down the stretch that might seem small but were the perhaps the difference in a battle of two teams that traditionally play close games.

Now, Ferris has a big opportunity this week with games against the Cardinals and Lakers. One of the Bulldogs worst losses of the GLIAC schedule came in University Center against SVSU. Ferris would love nothing more than to avenge that loss. At this point, Ferris needs to avenge that loss to maintain its position in the race toward the league tournament.

Lake Superior will represent another major test this weekend for the Bulldogs as the Lakers remain one of the better teams in the conference (behind, of course, the top-ranked team in the nation, Findlay).

Currently, Ferris is tied (with Hillsdale) for fourth in the league’s playoff standings at 10-8.
