BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University senior defensive tackle Jake Visser picked up a pair of expected, but still prestigious honors recently.
Visser, a native of Coopersville, was named to the American Football Coaches Association and Daktronics All-America First Teams. The honors are well-deserved ones for Visser who has been a cornerstone of the Bulldogs’ defensive line from the minute he stepped foot on the Ferris State University campus. Recently honored as the winner of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Jack McAvoy Award for character and leadership, Visser accomplished just about everything he possibly could – individually – during his college football playing career at Ferris. The McAvoy Award is particularly great because Visser has been a class act from day one. Combine that with his work ethic, talent and determination and it’s clear to see why he has collected as many honors as he has wearing the Ferris crimson and gold colors.
As a senior, Visser totaled 105 total tackles (including 56 solo stops), 16 tackles for loss and recorded 7.5 sacks. He additionally had two fumble recoveries, four blocked kicks and a forced fumble during the Bulldogs’ 11-game schedule.
