BIG RAPIDS – So, does Ferris still have a legitimate shot at making the NCAA Division II playoffs this season taking a 6-3 record into week 10?
Yes, but chances are slim and the Bulldogs essentially must play mistake-free for the balance of the season to have any shot at the playoffs. Ferris takes its slim post-season hopes to Hillsdale College this weekend to challenge the Chargers in a 2:30 p.m. game from Frank “Muddy” Waters Stadium in Hillsdale. After an almost-stunning 19-0 home loss to an up-and-coming Wayne State, two weeks ago during homecoming, the Bulldogs have since earned a 19-13 win over Northwood and now hope they’ve gotten back on track entering week 10.
Ferris (6-3) is ranked 10th in “Super Regional 3” as posted on the D2football.com Web site for the week of Oct. 27, 2008. That 10th-spot ranking is even more painful for the Bulldogs since just above them, in ninth, is Wayne at 7-2. Ferris must continue to win football games and hope for some troubles to be experienced by teams ahead of them in the region. One thing is for sure, however, Ferris no longer is in complete control of its playoff destiny – thanks to the painful Wayne State loss.
