BIG RAPIDS – Contending for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in football now is a long shot for Ferris.
But, the Bulldogs remain in a good position to contend for a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs as they seek their first bid to the playoffs since 1996. Ferris has plenty of hurdles in its way before it can truly begin to think about the possibility of post-season play. First up, the Bulldogs are back on the road at Indianapolis in a 6 p.m. game under the lights in Key Stadium.
“We’re going to have to find a way to bounce back in this game from (the 21-7 road loss in Houghton last weekend to Michigan Tech),” Ferris head coach Jeff Pierce said as his team dropped to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC. “We’re going to have to go on the road and find a way to get the job done against a good Indianapolis team. It’s tough to win on the road, but we still have some things we can accomplish. We have to find a way to get it done.”
This contest at Indianapolis is an enormous one for a Ferris team that still has a tough road foe left (Hillsdale College) on Nov. 1 in a 2:30 p.m. contest. On the positive side, the Bulldogs have three more home games at Top Taggart Field against Wayne State, for homecoming, Oct. 18; Northwood, in a 12 p.m. start, Oct. 25; and the regular-season finale against Saginaw Valley State, Nov. 8.
