Bridget Horwitz Named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week

February 17, 2003

Bridget Horwitz Ferris State University women's basketball junior forward/center Bridget Horwitz (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) has been selected this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week for her performance last week.

Ferris has claimed the award four times to date this campaign as Horwitz was previously honored once (12/9) and junior guard Lucy DeMartin (Mason) received the award twice (12/2, 12/16).

Horwitz totaled 47 points, 13 rebounds, six blocks and five assists while shooting 83-percent (20-24) from the floor in FSU's two home wins over nationally-ranked Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley State. The 6-2 Horwitz scored a game-high 30 points, grabbed six rebounds and had four blocks in last Monday's (Feb. 10) 75-69 win over 14th-ranked GVSU. She added a game-high 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists in only 12 minutes of action as FSU defeated SVSU 81-45 in its regular-season home finale last Saturday (Feb. 15). The Bulldogs, who are presently 14-9 overall and 9-7 in league action, clinched their fourth consecutive GLIAC Tournament appearance with Saturday's victory.

The 2001-02 All-GLIAC Second-Team pick currently has made 397 career field goals and is 26 shy of tying Julie Anthony’s (423; 1994-98) seventh-place career mark. She presently has 84 career blocks and needs 89 more to reach Mary Patterson’s (173; 1984-87) school-record career total.

A 2001-02 GLIAC All-Academic Team selection, Horwitz is averaging a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game and ranks second (17.1 ppg) among Ferris' scoring leaders. Horwitz, who currently ranks eighth (.486; 397-817) on FSU’s career field goal percentage chart, attained her 500th career rebound versus SVSU and is 30 shy of tying Kim Cesarz (530; 1981-85) for 11th place at FSU.

Horwitz has 962 career points to date and needs 38 more to become the school’s 11th player to register 1,000 career points.
