PREP RECRUIT STEPHANIE DENOYELLES INKS WITH FERRIS STATE
Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Basketball Player Joins Bulldog Program
The Ferris State University women’s basketball program has received a commitment from prep guard Stephanie DeNoyelles (Mt. Pleasant/Sacred Heart) who has announced her intentions to attend and compete in women’s basketball at FSU, starting with the 2006-07 academic term. The announcement was made by eighth-year FSU head coach Tracey Bloodworth-Fisk.
The 5-7 DeNoyelles recently completed her final prep season at Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy during the fall 2005 season for head coach Mark DeNoyelles, her father. She attained both first-team Detroit Free Press and honorable mention Detroit News Class D All-State kudos this campaign while playing alongside her younger sister, Kelsey, who claimed all-state recognition at forward.
"Steph is a hard-nosed kid and tough competitor," Bloodworth-Fisk said. "She's been well-coached throughout her high school career and is a student of the game who wants to learn.
"Since she's a left-handed guard, she'll give us a different look from the outside."
DeNoyelles averaged 8.5 points, 4.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.1 steals for the Irish in 2005 prior to suffering a season-ending injury after the 14th game. The 2005 All-Mid State Activities Conference Most Valuable Player Award recipient earned second-team Detroit Free Press All-State laurels after averaging 9.7 points, 5.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 steals as a junior in 2004. She started 89 consecutive games during her prep career.
The four-time all-league honoree guided Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart to three-straight conference and district championships from 2002-04 while twice serving as team captain. The Irish also claimed regional titles in 2002 and 2004 while earning regional runner-up laurels this campaign. The squad posted a school-best 23-2 overall record during the 2004 season.
A third-team 2004 Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) All-State selection, DeNoyelles also picked up third-team Detroit Free Press and honorable mention Detroit News All-State kudos in 2003. She was a Detroit Free Press Fifth-Team along with a Detroit News and Associated Press Honorable Mention All-Stater in 2002. DeNoyelles twice served as the squad's team captain.
A four-year starter, DeNoyelles helped guide the Irish to the squad’s first-ever regional championship as a freshman in 2002 while totaling 10.9 points, 5.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 steals per outing. She compiled 9.8 points, 5.0 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 3.2 steals a contest as a sophomore in 2003.
Besides basketball, DeNoyelles has also earned three varsity softball letters and been active in the Model United Nations and community service projects. Her parents are Mark and Sandra DeNoyelles. Her father played collegiate basketball at Saginaw Valley State University.
Ferris State, which is currently 3-4 overall, will visit Lake Superior State Friday, Dec. 16, for a 5:30 p.m. (EST) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) encounter in LSSU’s Bud Cooper Gymnasium at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
