Senior forward/center Bridget Horwitz (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) of the 2004-05 Ferris State women's basketball team has been named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) College Academic-Athletic Honor Team in an announcement made by the BCAM.

The five-member team recognizes outstanding scholar-athletes from Michigan colleges and universities at the NCAA I, II, III and NAIA levels. Selected players must be either a starter or key reserve and have at least a 3.2 grade point average. The BCAM teams were selected on the basis of academic achievement, athletic accomplishment, grade point average and BCAM membership. A 2004-05 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division First-Team selection, Horwitz was joined on the squad by Lake Superior State’s Randi Johnson, Hope's Adelynn Vilmann, Jayme Wilson of Oakland and Calvin's Lisa Winkle.

The Bulldogs have presently had a player named to the BCAM Academic-Athletic Honor Team four of the last five seasons to date as former standout Debbie Killips (1998-02) garnered first-team kudos in 2000-01 and Lucy DeMartin (2000-04) earned the distinction in both 2002-03 and 2003-04.

A two-time (2002-03) GLIAC North Division Second-Teamer, Horwitz ranked as the leading scorer for FSU this campaign with 415 points in 27 contests (15.4 ppg). She also recorded 195 rebounds (7.2 rpg) while posting 24 double-figure scoring contests. The 2002-03 Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region Second-Team pick also attained GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honors this season (Jan. 3).

Horwitz concluded her career ranked among the school's all-time top 10 career leaders in points (1,421), rebounds (719), blocked shots (125), made free throws (255), field goals made (582) and field goal percentage (.492). She was chosen as a GLIAC All-Academic Team pick this campaign and recognized as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV College Division First-Team selection.

Ferris State finished the 2004-05 season with an 11-17 overall record. FSU placed fourth in the GLIAC North Division with a 9-9 conference ledger and advanced to the league's postseason tournament for the sixth consecutive year.

The BCAM, which was incorporated in 1976, is the voice of basketball in Michigan and offers support for the game at all levels. The organization has also gained respectability nationwide by being a leader in clinics, academic awards, scholarship programs, newsletters and awards for players and coaches. BCAM, which presently has over 2,800 members, exists to represent and serve basketball coaches for the betterment of the game. In an effort to promote academics throughout the state, BCAM also honors the top student-athletes on a yearly basis.
