FERRIS STATE INKS ESCANABA HIGH SCHOOL’S JENNA GUAY

Prep Forward/Center To Play Collegiate Women’s Basketball For The Bulldogs

Jenna Guay The Ferris State University women's basketball program has received a commitment from prep forward/center Jenna Guay (Escanaba), who has announced her intentions to attend and compete in basketball at FSU starting with the 2005-06 academic term. The announcement was made by seventh-year FSU head coach Tracey Fisk.

The 6-1 Guay tallied 11.5 points and six rebounds per contest while guiding Escanaba High School to a 15-6 overall record as a senior during the fall 2004 campaign. In addition to leading the Eskymos in both scoring and rebounding, Guay also attained All-Great Northern Conference accolades for the second consecutive campaign and was presented the Escanaba Basketball Fan Club Award for her performance under head coach Tracy Erickson.

“Jenna is a young lady who knows what she wants and is determined to fulfill her goals,” Fisk said. “She’s a skilled post player whose eager to improve her game for the collegiate level.

“Based on Jenna's confidence and her desire to play at Ferris, we’re excited about her potential. It will be fun to watch her game develop over the next four years,” added Fisk.

A three-year (2002-04) letterwinner, Guay scored nearly six points and grabbed five rebounds per outing as EHS posted a 14-8 overall record in her junior (2003) season. She helped the Eskymos win a conference championship and compile an 11-10 overall mark as a sophomore (2002).

Guay also earned two varsity letters in volleyball along with three in track and field. She won the shot put (34-2.50), placed fourth in the discus (100-8), fifth in the high jump (4-8) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (51.24) as Escanaba won the 2004 Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Upper Peninsula Division I Track and Field Finals Championship (June 5) held at Kingsford, Mich.

Besides athletics, Guay was also active in the school’s Key Club, Snow Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions. Her older sister, Chelsey, currently plays collegiate volleyball at National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I member Saint Xaiver (Ill.).

The daughter of David and Gail Guay, Jenna plans to major in nursing at Ferris State. She joins fall signees Aubrey Freshour (Clinton Township/L'Anse Creuse), Teghan Thelen (Pewamo/Westphalia), Caitlin Hutchison (Riverview) and Ashley Fleming (Posen/Rogers City) as FSU's 2005-06 women's basketball recruits to date.

Ferris State finished the 2004-05 season with an 11-17 overall record. FSU placed fourth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division with a 9-9 conference ledger and advanced to the league's postseason tournament for the sixth consecutive year. The Bulldogs also recorded their ninth-straight season with 10 or more victories.
