AUBREY FRESHOUR ANNOUNCES INTENTION TO ATTEND FERRIS

FSU Women’s Basketball Program Receives Commitment From Prep All-Stater

Aubrey FreshourSeventh-year Ferris State University women's basketball head coach Tracey Fisk has announced the addition of prep guard/forward Aubrey Freshour (Clinton Township/L'Anse Creuse), who plans to attend and compete in women's basketball at FSU beginning with the 2005-06 academic year.

A 6-0 forward, Freshour garnered second-team 2004 Detroit Free Press Class A All-State honors along with Detroit News Class A Third Team recognition after guiding L’Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Township, Mich., to a district title as a senior this fall. The first-team All-Macomb Area Conference (MAC) Red Division honoree also was chosen as the captain of the Detroit Free Press’ All-Metro East Team this season.

“Aubrey is an athletic and agile player who gets after people,” said Fisk. “She has a truly competitive mentality and is an extremely coachable kid whose constantly looking for ways to encourage her teammates.”

Freshour averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds per game while leading the Lancers to a 15-9 overall record during the 2004 campaign. A first-team All-Macomb County selection, she also became the school’s all-time scoring leader with 1,275 career points and was honored as the county’s Most Valuable Player Award recipient.

“She runs the floor well and does an outstanding job of attacking the basket, finishing and drawing fouls,” Fisk said. “Aubrey makes her teammates better, which will push us to the next level.”

A three-time team captain, Freshour earned team Most Valuable Player honors in 2004 under head coach Jane Werner. The four-year letterwinner was a conference all-academic team pick and set school records for career free throws made (370), highest scoring average (19.9 ppg), most points in a game (33) and total records for a contest (23). She shot 45 percent from the floor and made 75 percent of her free throw attempts as a senior.

In addition to basketball, Freshour also received two varsity volleyball letters. She served on the school’s yearbook staff and was a National Honor Society member.

Freshour joins Teghan Thelen (Pewamo/Westphalia), Caitlin Hutchison (Riverview) and Ashley Fleming (Posen/Rogers City) as FSU's 2005-06 women's basketball recruits to date. The daughter of Tear and Karen Freshour, Aubrey plans to major in elementary education at Ferris State.

The Bulldogs, who reached the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament for the second time in school history last season, are presently 2-4 overall and 2-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play entering this Saturday's (Dec. 18) 6 p.m. (EST) non-league road contest versus North Dakota at UND's Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks, N.D.
