Three members of the 2004-05 Ferris State Unviersity women's basketball team received All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) recognition as announced Thursday (March 3) by the league office.
Senior forward/center Bridget Horwitz (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) was one of five players named to the GLIAC North Division First-Team along with Tiffany Grubaugh of Northern Michigan, Grand Valley State's Niki Reams and both Randi Johnson along with Becky Marquardt-King of Lake Superior State.
FSU sophomore guard Kristin Reinhart (East Lansing) received second-team All-GLIAC North Division kudos for the Bulldogs despite missing the final eight games this season due to injury. In addition, senior forward Sarah Duesing (Sault Ste. Marie), garnered GLIAC North Division All-Defensive Team accolades for the second consecutive year.
A two-time (2002-03) GLIAC North Division Second-Teamer, Horwitz ranked as the leading scorer for FSU this campaign with 415 points in 27 contests (15.4 ppg). She also recorded 195 rebounds (7.2 rpg) while posting 24 double-figure scoring contests.
Reinhart netted 308 points in 20 outings this season. She also dished out a team-high 96 assists and tallied 36 steals along with 25 made three-point field goals.
The 5-10 Duesing scored 201 points and grabbed 123 rebounds while starting all 28 contests. She scored 10 points or more six times, including a season-best 22 points versus Findlay (12/2/04). Duesing concluded her career with 554 points, 343 rebounds and 86 assists in 108 career appearances.
The GLIAC Player of the Year award was presented to Reams, Michigan Tech's Sarah Stream garnered GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors and head coach Kris Dunbar of Lake Superior State was chosen as the league's Coach of the Year in voting conducted by the conference's 13 head coaches.
Ferris State finished the 2004-05 season with an 11-17 overall record. FSU placed fourth in the GLIAC North Division with a 9-9 conference ledger and advanced to the league's postseason tournament for the sixth consecutive year.
